Galactose is a sugar with an important characteristic: it penetrates the cell without the need for an insulin receptor and therefore is metabolized without the need for insulin. This peculiarity makes galactose essential for the interruption of that vicious cycle that damages cognitive performance, together with the functions of various organs. One of the objectives of the reduction of the central nervous system’s manifestations is primarily the reduction of the brain’s “hunger state”, when sugar levels are low. Once galactose has entered the cell it is rapidly converted into glucose thereby reducing the “hunger” condition.
