The amygdala is described as the unconscious emotional center of the brain.

Alterations of the structure and the function of the amygdala have been observed in various psychiatric conditions that include anxiety disorders (post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attack, phobias), depression, schizophrenia and autism.

It has not been shown to be the cause of these disturbances, but it has been suggested that people suffering from these pathologies may have alterations at the level of the amygdala.

Examples of the role played by the amygdala in the regulation of the behavior in answer to external inputs are represented by situations like the immobilization in presence of a predator or the escape in order to get to safety.

The flow of information within the circuits of the amygdala is mediated by neurotransmitters, among which norepinephrine, dopamine, serotonin and acetylcholine are reported.

In addition, the amygdala, along with other brain structures such as the hippocampus and the pre-frontal cortex, is involved in the memory consolidation processes that occur during certain phases of sleep. When an individual is in "sleep debt" an alteration in the exchange of information between the amygdala and some parts of the cerebral cortex can be observed: reduced mood, amplified responses to negative inputs, irritability and emotional instability.

The amygdala plays a key role in the formation and memorization of memories associated with emotional events. It is responsible for fear, the learning process that allows the human being to defend himself and also to manage dangerous situations and survival.

In addition, it participates in the processing of emotions, such as anger, pleasure, sadness, fear, aggression, sense of anxiety, etc.

The amygdala is the structure of the brain that, in the moment in which an intense emotion is lived, triggers phenomena like the tachycardia, the release of the hormones of the stress, the increase of the pressure, the intense sweating, the increase of the respiratory rhythm, the sensation of anxiety etc.

Finally, it contributes to the memory of what caused pain, excitement and decision-making.

Recent neurological research suggests that there is a relationship between amygdala hyperactivity and clinical conditions, such as anxiety, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorders, borderline personality behavior, social anxiety, bipolar disorder and alcohol addiction.

Starting from this knowledge, in the formulation of AMI REMEDY were used components useful to harmonize the emotional shocks that caused these experiences and reduce the threshold of stress and fear, favoring the lowering of the unconscious alarm.
